Strategic Engagement

I had my last “application’ meeting on Tuesday (which I found quite draining) for the DBA.  Hopefully I will have some good news early next week.

Each meeting refines the scope of the question.  Still firmly in the ‘why strategy fails’ however it will probably make certain assumptions about the strategy design stage and the systems process to allow for a focus on the people aspect.

Coined the phrase “strategic engagement” as an adjunct to employee engagement.  This is the level of acceptance, invlovement, buy-in and agreement the staff have with the strategy of the business.

It is different to employee engagement which is tied to their general level of engagement in the workplace.  Strategic engagement is the employees understanding of the strategy / strategic objectives and the level to which they are able to make day to day decisions in line with the overall strategy of the organisation.

    Hi Ty,

    A most interesting subject. Reminds me somewhat of the interesting work from Dave Ulrich who proposed the idea of employee strategic alignment. Just wondering what your research hopes to examine? A method for achieving this outcome perhaps?

      Hi Mate,

      Thanks for the link. I have had a look at Dave’s idea and it seems to have a good tie into to my ‘strategic engagement’. Don’t think it will make it into the annotated bibliography though as I am already struggling.

      Going to come down and see you present in a couple of weeks.
